Letrozole 2.5 mg: what it is used for

Letrozole blocks aromatase, an enzyme involved in making oestrogen after menopause. Lower oestrogen levels can help slow or control cancers whose cells use this hormone signal. A clinician may prescribe it after surgery, alongside other cancer treatments, or when breast cancer has returned or spread, depending on the individual treatment plan.

The same medicine is sometimes discussed in fertility care for ovulation induction, but that is a separate clinical purpose with different timing and monitoring. A prescription should match the reason it was issued; do not use someone else's tablets or repurpose a cancer prescription.

Tell your care team about pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver or kidney problems, osteoporosis, fractures, and every medicine or supplement you take. Keep appointments so treatment response and side effects can be assessed. Letrozole may cause hot flushes, sweating, tiredness, headache, or joint and muscle discomfort; report symptoms that persist or limit normal activities.

Take the medicine only in the schedule provided. Do not alter the dose because a symptom improves or because another person has received a different plan.

Get urgent help for difficulty breathing, facial swelling, sudden chest pain, fainting, or new weakness on one side. Contact your cancer team about severe bone pain, a fall with injury, unusual vision changes, or symptoms that become difficult to manage.
