Contact your surgical team promptly for increasing wound redness, warmth, swelling, drainage, fever, worsening pain, or a new change in leg sensation or strength. Seek urgent medical care for new loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the inner thighs or genitals, rapidly worsening weakness, or severe symptoms affecting both legs. These signs need prompt assessment rather than waiting for a routine appointment.

Ask which nerve is being compressed, how the scan matches your left-sided symptoms, and what improvement is realistic for pain, numbness, and strength. You can also ask what activities to pause, when driving and work may be considered, how the wound should be managed, and whether physiotherapy is part of your recovery plan. Discuss non-surgical options, such as an epidural steroid injection, if the timing or need for surgery is uncertain.
