Short answer

Left arm pain from the shoulder to the forearm can arise from overloaded muscles, irritated tendons, a joint problem, or a nerve pathway, so the pattern matters.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the route of pain can suggest

Pain after lifting, reaching, throwing, or repetitive work may reflect muscle or tendon overload around the shoulder or elbow. Tennis Elbow can cause pain on the outer elbow and forearm, often aggravated by gripping or lifting. Golfer's Elbow affects the inner elbow region and may hurt with gripping or wrist movement. Shoulder stiffness, a tendon irritation, or a neck-related nerve problem can send discomfort farther down the arm. The route of pain does not identify the cause by itself.

Note whether the pain is aching, sharp, burning, or electric; whether shoulder motion changes it; and whether there is weakness, tingling, swelling, or neck pain. These clues help a clinician examine the neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and strength together.

What you can try

Temporarily reduce heavy lifting and repeated gripping, but keep comfortable movement so the shoulder and elbow do not become stiff. Adjust desk, tool, or sleeping positions if they provoke symptoms. Use a wrapped cold or warm pack according to which feels more soothing, protecting the skin. Do not push through sharp pain or progressive weakness. Book an assessment if symptoms continue, recur, or interfere with work, sleep, or dressing.

When to seek urgent care

Seek emergency help for arm pain with chest pressure, breathlessness, sweating, faintness, nausea, or sudden weakness. Prompt care is also needed after a major injury, when the arm looks deformed, or when the hand becomes cold, pale, blue, or newly numb. Severe pain with fever, redness, or rapidly increasing swelling needs same-day medical advice.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether the pain is most consistent with the shoulder, elbow, forearm muscles, or a nerve; which movements are safe; and whether physiotherapy or imaging would help. Ask how to pace lifting and what changes should prompt earlier review.

Questions people ask

Can elbow tendon pain travel into the forearm?

Yes. Irritated tendons around the inner or outer elbow can hurt into the forearm, particularly during gripping or wrist movement.

Should I stop moving the arm completely?

Avoid painful loading, but gentle comfortable movement is usually more useful than keeping the whole arm still for prolonged periods.
