What should you know about laser wart removal?

Short answer

Laser wart removal can target selected warts, but diagnosis, treatment choice, wound care, and follow-up affect the result.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Diagnosis
A wart-like bump should be examined before removal.
Healing
Tenderness and a crust can occur during recovery.

What the treatment does

A clinician uses concentrated energy to destroy or reduce wart tissue. The area may feel hot or tender and can form a crust while it heals. Warts are linked to a viral infection in the skin, so treating the visible lesion does not always prevent another wart from appearing. A bump that looks like a wart may instead be a different skin growth, which is why examination matters before removal.

Before and after treatment

Tell the clinician about diabetes, reduced immunity, poor wound healing, pregnancy, medicines, and any previous reaction to local anaesthetic. Keep the treated site clean and follow dressing instructions. Do not peel a crust or share towels, razors, socks, or nail tools that touch the area. Avoid friction and swimming until the wound-care advice allows them. Ask whether another method, such as standard wart removal, is more suitable for the wart’s location and thickness.

When to seek care

Contact the clinic if bleeding does not settle with firm gentle pressure, pain is increasing, or redness spreads beyond the treated area. Pus, fever, worsening warmth, or an unpleasant smell can signal infection. Seek a fresh assessment if the lesion changes, repeatedly bleeds, fails to heal, or returns after treatment rather than arranging repeated cosmetic sessions yourself.

Questions for your doctor

Ask how the diagnosis was confirmed, why laser is being recommended, what discomfort and wound care to expect, whether the treated wart may recur, and when you should return. Ask how to protect nearby skin and reduce spread to household members.

Questions people ask

Is laser wart removal suitable for every wart?

No. Location, thickness, diagnosis, skin health, and previous treatment affect the choice.

Can a wart come back after laser removal?

Yes. Recurrence or a new wart can occur because the underlying viral infection may persist.
