Laser resurfacing for wrinkles: what to know

Resurfacing removes or heats controlled portions of skin so the surface can heal and deeper skin can remodel. It may help fine lines, rough texture, and some sun-related changes, but it does not stop facial movement or replace lost volume. Lines caused mainly by muscle activity may need a different discussion. Around the eyes and mouth, skin thickness and movement matter when choosing settings. Tell the clinician about medicines, active acne or eczema, cold sores, easy scarring, pigment changes, and recent tanning. Clarify whether your goal is fine lines, deeper creases, roughness, or sun-damaged skin. Follow the preparation plan and arrange gentle skin care during recovery. Do not peel, scrub, or pick healing skin. Use the recommended moisturiser and sun protection once advised. Ask for prompt advice if pain or swelling is increasing, redness spreads, blisters appear, discharge develops, or the treated area becomes increasingly tender. Report persistent colour change or a delayed reaction rather than trying new active products on your own.

Ask which lines are likely to respond, whether movement or volume contributes to them, what device and depth will be used, how the eyes and lips will be protected, and what recovery will look like day by day.
