Laser for Hirsutism

Short answer
Laser hair removal can reduce unwanted coarse hair in hirsutism by targeting pigment in active follicles, although hormonal drivers, hair colour, and skin tone affect the plan and response.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What laser targets
Laser energy is absorbed by pigment in the hair shaft and follicle, creating heat that can weaken the follicle during its active growth phase. Because follicles cycle through different phases, treatment is usually planned as a series of visits rather than a single appointment. Darker, coarser hair generally gives the device more pigment to target; very light, grey, or red hair may respond less predictably.
Hirsutism can be associated with androgen activity or conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome. Laser addresses visible hair growth but does not correct an underlying hormonal cause.
Planning treatment
A clinician should review the areas involved, menstrual changes, acne, scalp hair thinning, medicines, and skin tone. Avoid waxing or plucking before sessions if instructed, because the follicle needs to remain present for laser targeting. Shaving is often preferred between visits. Protect treated skin from sunlight and follow advice about deodorants, cosmetics, and heat after each session.
If new coarse hair is developing quickly, medical treatment may be discussed alongside laser. Options can include spironolactone treatment or electrolysis for selected hairs.
When to seek care
Contact the treating clinic for increasing pain, blistering, crusting, pus, spreading redness, or a marked light or dark patch. Arrange medical assessment for rapid hair growth with deepening voice, severe acne, irregular periods, or scalp hair loss, because these changes may need evaluation beyond hair removal.
Useful questions
Ask which laser suits your skin and hair, whether a small test area is appropriate, how to prepare, how hormonal symptoms change the plan, and what improvement or regrowth pattern is realistic for you.

Questions people ask
Does laser treat the cause of hirsutism?
No. It reduces visible hair by acting on follicles; an underlying hormonal driver may need separate assessment and treatment.
Can laser treat every hair colour?
Laser relies on pigment, so very light, grey, or red hairs may respond less consistently than dark hairs.
