Lacy rash with fever: what to know

A net-like or lace-like rash may appear as an illness evolves or as skin blood flow changes. Fever is a symptom of infection or inflammation, not a diagnosis by itself. Chickenpox usually presents with itchy spots that progress through different stages, whereas Cellulitis more often causes a painful, warm, expanding area rather than a lacy pattern. A Drug Rash can begin after a new medicine, but timing, distribution, and other symptoms matter.

Record when the fever and rash began, photograph the pattern in good light, and write down recent medicines, infections, travel, and new products. Encourage fluids and rest if the person is able to drink, and use only fever relief that is suitable for them according to a clinician or the product instructions. Avoid sharing towels or close contact until an infectious cause has been considered. Do not start antibiotics or stop an essential prescribed medicine without medical guidance; contact the prescriber promptly if the rash followed a new drug.

Seek urgent medical care for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, confusion, faintness, severe headache, stiff neck, repeated vomiting, marked drowsiness, purple or bruise-like spots, skin pain, blisters, peeling, or rapidly spreading redness. Infants, pregnant people, and anyone with a weakened immune system should receive a lower threshold for same-day advice. A clinician may need to examine the rash and check the full illness pattern.
