What should you know about KT tape for a supraspinatus tear?

Short answer
KT tape may offer short-term sensory support with a supraspinatus tear, but it does not reconnect torn tendon fibres or replace rehabilitation.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What a supraspinatus tear involves
The supraspinatus is part of the rotator cuff and helps start arm elevation. A tear may cause shoulder pain, pain when lifting the arm, reduced strength, or difficulty reaching overhead. KT tape can provide a skin-level cue that changes how movement feels; it cannot stabilise the tendon like a brace or confirm the size of a tear. Rotator cuff tendinitis and shoulder osteoarthritis can produce overlapping symptoms, so the diagnosis should come from an examination and, when needed, imaging. Less pain while taped does not mean the tendon is ready for heavy loading.
How to use it safely
Have a physiotherapist apply or demonstrate the tape with your arm positioned safely. Place it on clean, dry, intact skin and avoid excessive tension around the shoulder. Check the skin after application and remove it if itching, blistering, burning, numbness, or increasing pain occurs. Keep activity within the range advised for your tear; do not use tape to push through painful overhead lifting, sudden pulling, or heavy resistance. Rehabilitation commonly focuses on restoring comfortable motion and then building shoulder control and strength in stages.
When to seek care
Seek prompt assessment after a fall or sudden force if you cannot raise the arm, or if weakness appears abruptly. Arrange review for worsening night pain, increasing stiffness, visible swelling, or loss of function despite rest. Urgent care is appropriate for a deformed shoulder, a cold or numb arm, or severe pain after an injury.
Questions for your clinician
Ask whether the tear is partial or full thickness, which movements need protection, and when strengthening can progress. Ask if your symptoms fit rotator cuff tendinitis or shoulder osteoarthritis as well, and whether tape adds anything to your rehabilitation plan.

Questions people ask
Will KT tape heal a supraspinatus tear?
No. It may affect comfort or movement awareness, but healing and function require an individual clinical plan.
Can I lift normally with the tape on?
Use only the movements and loads advised for your shoulder; tape should not be used to mask pain during heavy lifting.
