Hyaluronic acid is a water-binding molecule used in skincare to support surface hydration and a softer skin feel. A leave-on serum or cream is applied to the skin and works locally; it does not deliver medicine into a joint, tendon or spine. Medical hyaluronic acid injections are a separate treatment. They are placed by a trained clinician into a selected joint or other target area after an assessment. A cosmetic product cannot be used in place of, or prepared as, an injectable treatment.
