What should you know about kidney stones swollen belly?

A stone often causes waves of flank, back, lower abdominal, or groin pain. Nausea, vomiting, blood in urine, urgency, or Painful Urination may occur. Pain can create a feeling of fullness, but visible swelling also has bowel, pregnancy, fluid, and other possible causes. A kidney stone may occur without swelling, so one symptom cannot confirm it.

Contact a GP Consultation service if swelling lasts or returns, especially with pain. Record when it began, tenderness, bowel changes, urine changes, vomiting, and fever. An Abdominal Ultrasound may be considered according to the examination. Sip fluids if you can keep them down, unless restricted.

Seek urgent care for severe or rapidly increasing swelling, intense pain, repeated vomiting, fever or chills, faintness, or Difficulty Passing Urine. Painful Urination with fever can signal infection. Sudden severe Abdominal Pain or Flank Pain needs prompt assessment.

Ask what could be causing the swelling, whether urine testing or ultrasound is appropriate, and which symptoms require urgent review. If you have had stones before, ask about prevention and dehydration.
