What should you know about kidney stones form?

A crystal may remain tiny or gather more material as urine passes around it. Low fluid intake, fluid loss and changes in urine chemistry can make crystal formation easier. A stone may stay in the kidney without symptoms, or move into the ureter and cause flank or abdominal pain. A stone can irritate the urinary lining, causing painful urination or blood in the urine. These symptoms can have other causes, so they do not confirm a stone by themselves.
