How should you use Kenalog in Orabase?

Orabase is an adhesive dental paste that helps keep triamcinolone acetonide against the lining of the mouth. The steroid reduces local inflammation; it does not treat every cause of an ulcer. A sore caused by infection, trauma, a medication, or an underlying condition may need a different approach. The paste is intended for the mouth when prescribed in this form, not for swallowing as a general medicine and not for applying to the skin unless specifically directed.

Wash your hands, then gently dry the sore with clean gauze if this is comfortable. Dab a small amount onto the area and press it into place rather than rubbing it away. Use it at the times and for the duration on your prescription. Avoid eating or drinking immediately afterward if your clinician or product instructions advise allowing the film to remain. Do not share the tube, place the nozzle directly on the sore, or apply more often because discomfort persists. Tell your clinician about other mouth medicines, diabetes, immune suppression, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Contact a clinician if the sore spreads, becomes increasingly painful, bleeds easily, or fails to improve as expected. Seek urgent help for facial swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing, fever with worsening mouth pain, or a severe rash. White patches that wipe off, repeated ulcers, or sores in several areas may indicate a problem that needs examination rather than longer steroid use.
