Keep getting laryngitis: what should you know?

Short answer
Keep getting laryngitis can follow repeated infections, voice strain, irritants, or acid reflux, so protect your voice and arrange assessment when hoarseness persists or keeps returning.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why laryngitis may recur
Laryngitis is inflammation of the voice box, which can make the voice rough, weak, or absent. A Common Cold may inflame the throat and voice box, while repeated shouting, singing, prolonged speaking, smoke, dust, or dry air can keep the area irritated. Acid Reflux can reach the throat and voice box, sometimes causing morning hoarseness, throat clearing, or a cough without a typical burning sensation. Sore Throat and Hoarse Voice can occur alongside laryngitis, but they do not identify its cause by themselves.
How to care for your voice
Rest your voice by speaking softly and briefly; whispering can also strain the voice, so use writing or messaging when possible. Drink fluids, avoid smoke, and use humidified air if dryness is aggravating symptoms. Do not repeatedly clear your throat, and avoid shouting over background noise. Treat a blocked nose or cough according to professional advice, and record episodes, voice demands, reflux symptoms, and possible irritants. A GP Consultation can help when the pattern is recurrent.
When to seek care
Seek urgent help for severe breathing difficulty, noisy breathing, inability to swallow saliva, or rapidly increasing throat swelling. Arrange a GP review for hoarseness that does not settle, keeps returning, or affects work or eating, particularly if there is a neck lump, coughing blood, unexplained weight loss, or a history of smoking. Children with breathing difficulty need urgent assessment.
Questions for your doctor
Could reflux, infection, voice use, or an irritant explain the pattern? How long should I rest my voice? Do I need an examination of my throat or voice box? Which warning signs should I watch for?
