Scalp micropigmentation, sometimes called SMP or a hair tattoo, uses carefully placed pigment to create the visual impression of density, a defined hairline, or a closely shaved style. It can camouflage contrast between the scalp and surrounding hair, including in some forms of thinning.

The result depends on pigment choice, needle technique, hairline design, skin tone, scar texture, sun exposure, and how the skin heals. A named practitioner or branded style does not remove the need to check training, hygiene, healed examples, and an individual treatment plan.
