Januvia rash: what to know and do

A medicine-related eruption can appear as itchy red patches, raised spots or hives after a new medicine or dose change. A rash can also come from contact dermatitis, heat, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies or another cause. The timing, distribution, texture and accompanying symptoms help a clinician separate these possibilities.

Record when the rash began, where it started, whether it is spreading, and every medicine or supplement taken recently. Photos taken in good light can help if the appearance changes before review.

Get emergency help for breathing difficulty, faintness, swelling of the tongue or face, widespread hives, skin peeling, painful blisters, or sores in the mouth or eyes. These features can signal a serious reaction and should not wait for a routine appointment.
