IV therapy for wellness: what to know

Short answer
IV therapy for wellness delivers selected fluids or nutrients into a vein, but benefits are not guaranteed and treatment should follow an individual medical assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What wellness IV therapy involves
A wellness infusion may contain fluid, vitamins, or minerals chosen by the provider. The direct route does not automatically make a nutrient more useful, and an infusion cannot replace sleep, balanced food, movement, or treatment for an underlying illness. Fatigue, for example, may reflect a vitamin B12 deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, anaemia, thyroid disease, poor sleep, or another cause. Testing and a health history can help distinguish these possibilities before treatment.
Make an informed choice
Ask for the complete ingredient list, the reason for each ingredient, expected benefits, alternatives, and the plan if symptoms persist. Tell the clinician about kidney or heart disease, pregnancy, allergies, medicines, and previous reactions to infusions. A prescribed B12 injection or vitamin D supplementation may be more appropriate when a deficiency is confirmed. Choose a setting that uses sterile equipment and has trained staff who can respond to a reaction. Avoid treating a new or persistent symptom solely with a wellness infusion.
When to seek medical advice
Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting, severe dizziness, facial swelling, or confusion during or after an infusion. Arrange an appointment for unexplained fatigue, repeated infections, weight change, ongoing thirst, or symptoms that do not settle. A wellness service should not delay assessment of a condition needing diagnosis. Report pain, redness, swelling, or discharge at the cannula site because these can need review.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your goal points to a medical problem, which tests could clarify it, whether oral treatment is suitable, and what risks the proposed ingredients carry with your medicines and health conditions.
