What should you know about itn malaria?

Malaria is transmitted by infected mosquitoes, so a net is one part of bite protection. Use a net from dusk through morning, keep it closed, and tuck it securely around the sleeping space. It does not treat infection or replace travel advice, recommended preventive medicine, repellent, or suitable clothing.

Check for tears before travel and repair or replace damaged fabric. Hang the net so it does not rest against the body. Combine it with repellent and screened or air-conditioned rooms where possible. Arrange a travel health consultation before visiting a malaria area to discuss malaria prophylaxis.

Seek prompt assessment for fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, unusual weakness, or illness during travel or after returning from a malaria area. Tell the clinician where and when you travelled, even if you used a net. Confusion, breathing difficulty, collapse, repeated vomiting, or inability to drink requires emergency help.

Ask whether your destination requires prophylaxis, which symptoms need a blood test, and how long to remain alert after returning.
