What should you know about itchy watery eyes and sneezing?

Allergic rhinitis can present with repeated sneezing, an itchy or blocked nose, and clear nasal drainage, while allergic conjunctivitis can present with itchy, watery eyes. Symptoms may recur in a particular place or season and may occur without feeling generally unwell. A cold more often develops over a short period with sore throat, cough, tiredness, or thicker mucus, but symptoms overlap, so the pattern alone cannot confirm the cause.

Notice where symptoms begin and reduce contact with the suspected trigger. Wash your face and hands after outdoor exposure, change clothes after time around dust or animals, and keep the sleeping area as low in dust as practical. Saline rinsing may help some people with nasal irritation. Ask a pharmacist or clinician about allergy medication, especially if you are pregnant, have another condition, or take regular medicines.

Get medical advice when symptoms are persistent, keep returning, or make breathing, sleep, or work difficult. Seek urgent help for wheezing, throat tightness, facial swelling, severe eye pain, new vision changes, or a rapidly worsening reaction. A fever with marked illness, dehydration, or symptoms that are not improving also warrants assessment rather than assuming the problem is an allergy.
