Itchy throat and a cold: remedies that may help

Short answer
For an itchy throat during a cold, fluids, soothing measures, rest and treatment of nasal symptoms may ease irritation while the illness settles.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why a cold can itch
A Common Cold can inflame the throat and increase mucus from the nose. That mucus may drain backwards and create a tickle, dry cough or repeated clearing. Sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, tiredness and a mild temperature can support a cold pattern. Allergic Rhinitis can look similar, especially when symptoms return around dust, pollen or animals without a clear infectious pattern.
An itchy throat is not proof of a cold. Reflux, smoke, dry indoor air and strong fragrances can also irritate it. Food Allergy is a different concern when itching begins soon after a food and is joined by swelling, hives, vomiting, wheeze or breathing difficulty.
Relief at home
Sip warm or cool fluids according to what feels comfortable, choose soft foods, and avoid smoke and alcohol while the throat is irritated. Saline nasal spray may reduce thick secretions and mouth breathing. Rest and hand hygiene can reduce spread to others. A pharmacist can help you choose a suitable cold product or Allergy Medication when allergy features are present; check labels to avoid duplicating ingredients and mention any health conditions or regular medicines.
When to get medical help
Seek emergency care for breathing difficulty, throat swelling, inability to swallow saliva, severe dehydration, confusion or chest pain. Contact a clinician if symptoms are worsening rather than easing, return after improvement, or include persistent high fever, severe one-sided throat pain or a rash. Children, older adults and people with significant long-term illness may need earlier advice.
