Itchy sore throat and runny nose

A Common Cold commonly presents with a runny nose, throat irritation, sneezing, cough, or tiredness. Allergic Rhinitis commonly presents with a watery runny nose, repeated sneezing, and itchy eyes or nose, often after exposure to a trigger. Influenza may cause a more abrupt illness with fever, aches, and pronounced fatigue. COVID-19 can include sore throat and nasal symptoms, so symptoms alone cannot confirm or exclude it. Acid Reflux may irritate the throat but does not usually explain a continuously runny nose.

Drink regularly, rest, and use tissues gently to reduce skin irritation around the nostrils. Saline nasal drops or rinses can loosen mucus; use sterile or properly prepared water as directed. Warm drinks and throat lozenges may provide comfort. Reduce exposure to smoke, dust, and strong scents. If the pattern is seasonal or follows a known trigger, a pharmacist can discuss Allergy Medication and check that it fits your age, pregnancy status, and current treatment. Antibiotics do not treat viral colds or allergies.

Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, blue or grey lips, inability to swallow fluids, confusion, or rapidly worsening symptoms. Contact a clinician if you become dehydrated, have severe weakness, a persistent high temperature, chest pain, or symptoms that improve and then markedly worsen. Consider advice about testing or isolation when a contagious infection is possible.
