Itchy Skin With Nausea, Headache and Fatigue

The symptoms do not identify one diagnosis by themselves. Dry skin, eczema, contact dermatitis or hives can cause itching, while nausea, headache and tiredness may occur with a separate viral illness, dehydration, poor sleep or a medicine reaction. A new soap or medication can be relevant even when the rash is subtle. Itching with scabies may be intense, but nausea, headache and fatigue would still need their own assessment. Note whether the symptoms began together, whether a rash, fever or swelling appeared, and whether anyone else is unwell.

Rest, drink fluids if you can keep them down, use a gentle fragrance-free moisturiser and avoid newly introduced skin products. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without advice, but record its name and when it was started. Check your temperature if you feel feverish, and write down headache location, vomiting, urine changes, exposures, travel and the timing of itch. Arrange a clinical review if the combination is new, persistent or worsening; the clinician may need to examine the skin and review medicines and general health.

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, confusion, severe or sudden headache, stiff neck, repeated vomiting, inability to keep fluids down, or a rapidly spreading purple, blistering or painful rash. Prompt assessment is also needed for yellowing of the skin or eyes, very dark urine, marked weakness or a high fever. These signs require attention because they can indicate a serious allergic, infectious or systemic problem.
