Itchy Skin All Over with Tiny Bumps: What to Know

Bumps that appeared after sweating or heat may be heat-related irritation. A new soap, cream, detergent, medicine, or fabric can cause Contact Dermatitis. Atopic Dermatitis may leave dry, inflamed, very itchy areas. Hives are usually raised and may shift or fade, while Scabies can cause intense itch with small bumps and may be worse at night or affect household contacts. The location, timing, scale, crusting, and whether the bumps come and go matter more than bump size alone.

Cool the skin with a brief lukewarm rinse, then apply a plain moisturiser. Avoid scratching, fragranced products, heavy oils, and tight clothing until the pattern is clearer. Keep the area cool and dry, wash clothing and bedding regularly, and avoid sharing towels if an infestation is possible. Photograph the bumps when they are most visible and list recent exposures or medicines for a clinician.

Get emergency help for breathing difficulty, throat or tongue swelling, collapse, or a rapidly spreading reaction. Seek prompt care for fever, painful skin, pus, purple spots, extensive peeling, or blisters involving the eyes or mouth. Make an appointment if the bumps persist, spread, prevent sleep, or appear in more than one household member.
