Itchy Hard Lump Under the Skin

A sudden itchy raised area may be a Hive or an insect-bite reaction. A deeper tender bump can be an inflamed cyst or local infection. Atopic Dermatitis, Asteatotic Eczema, Contact Dermatitis, Psoriasis, Lichen Planus, or Skin Yeast Infection can create thickened or scaly areas that feel firm. Scabies can produce small itchy bumps, often with itch in several body areas. The location, duration, mobility, colour, tenderness, and surface changes matter more than firmness alone.

Do not squeeze, pierce, or repeatedly press the lump. Photograph it beside a familiar object, record its size by comparison, and note pain, warmth, drainage, colour, and whether it moves. Use a cool compress for itch and keep the area clean. Avoid new creams until the cause is clearer, particularly if the skin is broken.

Arrange a medical examination if the lump persists, enlarges, becomes firm and fixed, returns repeatedly, or is associated with unexplained weight change or night symptoms. Seek urgent care for rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, fever, pus, red streaks, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty.
