Itchy Feet During Pregnancy

Pregnancy can change skin sensitivity and make heat, sweat, footwear, or fragranced products harder to tolerate. Contact Dermatitis may cause redness or irritation where a product or material touches. Athlete's Foot may cause peeling or scaling between the toes. Dyshidrotic Eczema may appear as very itchy small blisters on the soles or sides.

Notice whether itching is limited to the feet or also affects the palms, arms, or trunk. Tell your maternity clinician about widespread, severe, or unexplained itching, particularly if it is stronger at night or occurs without an obvious rash.

Use lukewarm water, a fragrance-free cleanser, and a plain moisturiser on dry skin. Pat feet dry, change damp socks, choose roomy breathable footwear, and use a cool compress rather than scratching. Keep any moist area between toes dry.

Before using a medicated cream, antifungal treatment, antihistamine, or herbal product, check with your maternity clinician or pharmacist. They can consider the skin diagnosis, pregnancy stage, other medicines, and the safest application instructions.

Contact your maternity team promptly for intense or widespread itching, itching of the palms or soles without a clear rash, or symptoms that disturb sleep. Seek urgent care for rapidly spreading redness, warmth, swelling, pus, fever, severe pain, or facial swelling or breathing difficulty.

Ask whether the skin needs examination or testing, which moisturisers and medicines are suitable in pregnancy, and whether your itching needs pregnancy-related blood tests or follow-up.
