Itchy feet at night: causes and care

Short answer
Itchy feet at night may be linked to heat, moisture, irritation, eczema, or fungal infection, so examine the skin pattern and triggers.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Common clues
- Heat, dampness, scaling, cracks, or blisters
- Night routine
- Cool, wash gently, dry well, and avoid scratching
- Get help
- If sleep is repeatedly disrupted or skin becomes inflamed
Reading the pattern
Warm feet under bedding can intensify an itch that began after a day in closed shoes. Contact Dermatitis may follow a new detergent, insole, cream, or shoe material. Athlete's Foot commonly affects moist areas such as between the toes and may cause scaling or cracks. Dyshidrotic Eczema can produce clusters of intensely itchy small blisters on the sides or soles.
Nighttime timing does not identify one diagnosis. Check whether both feet are affected, whether the skin is dry or wet, and whether the itch occurs during the day as well.
Practical night-time care
Wash gently, dry thoroughly, change out of damp socks, and choose breathable footwear during the day. Keep the bedroom comfortably cool, avoid fragranced products, and use a cool cloth rather than scratching. Moisturiser can support dry skin on the soles, but avoid trapping moisture between the toes.
If the rash is persistent or scaly, arrange an assessment before choosing treatment. A clinician can decide whether topical antifungal treatment or another approach fits the findings.
Warning signs
Seek a clinical review when itching lasts, keeps waking you, or returns despite removing likely irritants. Get urgent care for fever, spreading redness, severe tenderness, pus, red streaks, marked swelling, or a wound that is not closing.
Questions to bring
Ask what the rash most resembles, whether both feet should be treated, how long to try the recommended care, and which symptoms mean you should return sooner.
