What should you know about itchy eyes after Botox?

The timing can help your clinician work out whether the discomfort followed the injection, contact with a cleansing product, eye drops, adhesive, or exposure to an everyday allergen. Itching alone is often less concerning than pain, marked swelling, or visual change, but it should not be ignored if it is persistent or worsening.

Botox treatment can be followed by surface irritation or dry-eye symptoms, especially when blinking feels different or the eyelids do not close comfortably. Itching may also be caused by a reaction to a product used during or after the appointment rather than to Botox itself. Watery eyes, sneezing, or itching in both eyes can fit an allergic pattern; these symptoms can occur with Allergic Conjunctivitis or Allergic Rhinitis.

Do not rub your eyes, because rubbing can further irritate the eye surface and increase swelling. A clinician may need to examine the eyes and eyelids to distinguish surface irritation from infection, inflammation, or a treatment-related problem.

Wash your hands before touching the area and avoid eye makeup, contact lenses, and new creams around the eyes until the irritation settles. A cool, clean compress over closed eyelids may ease itching and puffiness. Keep a note of when the symptoms began, which products touched your skin or eyes, and whether one or both eyes are affected.

Contact the injecting clinician or an eye professional for advice before using medicated eye drops, particularly if you have pain, discharge, light sensitivity, or a history of eye disease. If an allergy is suspected, ask whether an appropriate Allergy Medication is suitable for you; do not use someone else’s prescription drops.

Seek urgent medical assessment for new or worsening blurred or double vision, loss of vision, severe eye pain, pronounced light sensitivity, significant eyelid drooping, or difficulty moving an eye. Get emergency help for swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing, faintness, or widespread hives.

Arrange a prompt review if the itching is getting worse, the eye becomes very red, discharge develops, or symptoms do not begin to improve. Take the Botox treatment details and a list of eye or skin products with you.
