What should you know about itchy ears eyes and throat?

Allergic rhinitis can inflame the nose and nearby passages, while allergic conjunctivitis affects the eye surface. Together they may cause sneezing, watery eyes, an itchy palate, and ear itching or pressure. House dust mites and pets are possible triggers. Symptoms that start after a particular food require a different level of caution because food allergy can affect the mouth and throat.

Wash your face and hands after outdoor exposure, keep the bedroom free of avoidable dust, and limit contact with a trigger you recognise. Use a cool compress for itchy eyes and avoid rubbing them. Do not scratch inside the ears. Ask a pharmacist or clinician about allergy medication and suitable eye care, particularly if you wear lenses.

Get emergency help for rapid swelling of the lips, tongue, mouth, or throat; wheezing; difficulty breathing; dizziness; or collapse. Seek prompt review for eye pain, reduced vision, pus-like discharge, severe ear pain, hearing loss, or symptoms that do not settle after the suspected trigger is avoided.
