Itchy Bumpy Skin During Pregnancy

Pregnancy can coincide with changes in skin sensitivity and may also overlap with familiar conditions. Dry, inflamed areas can occur with asteatotic eczema or atopic dermatitis. A new soap, fabric, cosmetic, detergent, or metal can trigger contact dermatitis. Raised bumps that shift location can occur with hives. Itch between the fingers, around the wrists, or among household contacts can occur with scabies. Contact your maternity or dermatology team promptly for new intense itching, a rapidly spreading rash, blistering, fever, pain, pus, or skin that becomes hot and swollen. During pregnancy, report severe itch without much of a visible rash, especially on the palms or soles, or itch that is worse at night, because it may need medical evaluation beyond the skin.
