Itching in feet and hands at night

Warm bedding can make an existing itch feel stronger. Dry, cracked skin points toward barrier irritation; scaling between the toes suggests a fungal process; tiny blisters on the sides of fingers or feet can occur with eczema. Scabies often causes intense nighttime itching and may affect finger webs, wrists, waist, or household contacts. New gloves, shoes, detergents, or creams can cause contact dermatitis. The location and appearance are more useful than timing alone.

Wash gently, pat dry, and apply a thick fragrance-free moisturiser, especially after bathing. Keep nails short, use a cool compress, wear breathable socks, and avoid hot water and scratching. Do not share towels or footwear if an infestation or infection is possible. Check the skin in daylight for cracks, scale, burrows, blisters, or a new product exposure, and record whether anyone else at home is itchy.

Arrange prompt review for spreading redness, warmth, pus, marked swelling, fever, painful cracks, or difficulty walking or using the hands. Seek urgent help for facial or throat swelling, breathing difficulty, or a rapidly spreading rash. See a clinician if itching repeatedly wakes you, affects other household members, or persists despite gentle skin care; the treatment differs for eczema, fungal infection, and scabies.
