Itching and bumps around the pubic area

Small bumps around hair follicles after shaving, waxing, sweating, or tight clothing may reflect irritation or ingrown hairs. Contact Dermatitis can follow a new wash, pad, lubricant, condom, or detergent. Skin Yeast Infection may cause moist, red, itchy skin in folds. Scabies often causes intense night-time itching and may affect close contacts, while Hives form raised areas that can come and go. Genital sores, blisters, warts, or discharge need a clinician's assessment because they are not explained by every itchy rash.

Pause shaving and waxing, avoid fragranced products, and wear loose breathable underwear. Wash gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, and do not squeeze or scratch the bumps. Do not share towels or apply leftover antibiotics, steroids, or insect treatments to genital skin. If a sexually transmitted infection is possible, avoid sexual contact until assessed and use a clinic that can provide confidential testing and treatment.

Arrange prompt care for spreading redness, pus, severe pain, fever, blisters, open sores, genital swelling, painful urination, or unusual discharge. Seek urgent help if swelling affects breathing or if severe pain develops quickly. A clinician may need to inspect the bumps, ask about contacts and exposures, and test a swab or sample rather than guessing from appearance.

Ask whether the bumps look follicular, allergic, fungal, parasitic, or sexually transmitted. Tell them about shaving, new products, sexual exposure, household itching, pregnancy possibility, and any discharge or pain. Ask what to do with clothing, towels, or close contacts if scabies or an infection is suspected.
