What should you know about itching all over body while pregnant?

The location and appearance of the itch matter. Dry, stretched skin often itches over the abdomen, breasts, or limbs. Eczema and other skin conditions generally produce redness, bumps, or scaling. Itching across the body with no rash, particularly on the hands or feet and during the night, can be associated with a pregnancy-related liver problem and should be checked. Hodgkin Lymphoma presents with itching in some people, but pregnancy itself does not make generalized itching evidence of cancer. Vulvar Cancer is a different concern involving ongoing vulvar symptoms.

Send a message or call your maternity team with the timing, severity, affected areas, rash status, and any change in sleep. Use unperfumed moisturiser, avoid hot water and fragranced products, and wear loose breathable layers. Do not assume a pharmacy product, supplement, or herbal remedy is pregnancy-safe; ask a clinician or pharmacist first. Keep observing fetal movement in the way your maternity team has explained.

Request prompt maternity assessment when the itch is persistent, widespread, rash-free, worse at night, or concentrated on the palms or soles. Seek urgent help if fetal movement is reduced, or if you develop yellow eyes or skin, dark urine, pale stools, severe headache, visual disturbance, sudden swelling, bleeding, or strong abdominal pain. These signs need direct clinical guidance.
