Is whole-body cryotherapy done with cryotherapy chamber?

The chamber exposes the body to very cold, dry air for a brief session. Depending on the equipment, the head may remain outside the cold section or the person may stand inside an enclosure. Staff should explain the controls, clothing and protective items before starting, and remain available during the session.

Cold exposure can cause intense skin cooling and temporary discomfort. It is not the same as placing the body in ice water, and it should not be treated as a replacement for assessment of an injury or ongoing medical condition.

Tell the provider about circulation problems, cold sensitivity, skin disease, heart or lung conditions, pregnancy, medicines, and any recent illness. Follow instructions about dry skin, jewellery, clothing and protective gloves or footwear. Stop and tell staff immediately if you feel faint, confused, unusually short of breath, or develop severe pain or burning. After exposure, seek medical advice for persistent numbness, blistering, marked skin colour change, severe pain, dizziness that does not settle, breathing difficulty, or chest discomfort. Emergency help is appropriate for collapse, severe breathing trouble, or confusion.
