Is vaginal pessary fitting done with silicone ring pessary?

A ring pessary is a flexible device placed in the vagina to support structures affected by pelvic organ prolapse. During a fitting visit, a clinician assesses the vaginal tissues, prolapse, comfort, and ability to empty the bladder. They may try a silicone ring pessary of a particular size, or consider another design if a ring does not stay in place or provide enough support.

The correct fit should feel comfortable when you stand, walk, cough, and pass urine. You should not have sharp pain, pressure that prevents urination, or repeated slipping. A fitting can involve adjustment and follow-up rather than a single final choice.

Follow the instructions for cleaning, removal, reinsertion, and review. Some people remove the pessary themselves; others need help from a clinician. Ask whether vaginal moisturiser or local treatment is appropriate if the tissues are dry, and report discharge or spotting rather than ignoring it.

Attend the planned check so the clinician can inspect the vaginal walls and confirm that the device remains suitable. Contact the service sooner if it falls out repeatedly, causes pain, or interferes with passing urine or stool.
