Another typhoid option is a live weakened vaccine, which is taken by mouth in some settings. These products have different schedules, age considerations and precautions.

A clinician also considers pregnancy, immune conditions, allergies and medicines before recommending a vaccine. Protection is not a substitute for safe food, treated water and hand hygiene.
