Is Total Knee Replacement Done With a Titanium Implant?

A total knee replacement has several parts that replace damaged joint surfaces and create a stable moving joint. Titanium may be used in selected components or coatings, while other systems use different metal alloys and a plastic bearing insert. The choice is based on the implant design, bone quality, fixation approach, alignment needs, and the surgeon's experience with that system.

The word titanium does not identify the entire replacement. It also does not by itself explain how the implant will feel, how long rehabilitation may take, or whether a device is suitable for a particular person. Your operative plan should specify the intended system and any relevant alternatives.
