TCA CROSS stands for chemical reconstruction of skin scars. A clinician uses a concentrated trichloroacetic acid preparation on the narrow base of an atrophic acne scar. The controlled chemical injury prompts healing and may soften the appearance of some ice-pick or similar depressed scars over a series of treatments. It is different from a broad chemical peel, because the acid is targeted to individual scar openings.
