Is shoulder replacement done with titanium implant?

Titanium is a metal used in some orthopaedic implant components. In shoulder replacement, it may form part of a stem, baseplate, or other component designed to support the reconstructed joint. The implant configuration differs between anatomic and reverse replacement, and some parts may use different materials.

Selection depends on your bone quality, shoulder shape, tendon status, previous surgery, and the way the surgeon plans to fix the components. Titanium on its own does not describe the entire operation or determine how quickly you recover.

Call the care team if pain is worsening rather than settling, the wound opens or drains, fever develops, or new tingling or weakness appears in the arm. Get urgent assessment after a fall, a visible change in shoulder shape, severe swelling, chest pain, or difficulty breathing.
