Is ovulation induction done with letrozole?

Letrozole temporarily reduces oestrogen production. The brain can then increase signals that stimulate the ovaries, helping a follicle develop and potentially release an egg. A fertility clinician chooses it only after considering the reason for irregular or absent ovulation and whether it fits your medical history.

The plan usually specifies cycle days, dose, and follow-up. Ovulation may be checked through symptoms, blood testing, or ultrasound. Letrozole is not the same as ovarian stimulation for egg collection, and the monitoring and goals can differ between treatment plans.

Take letrozole on the prescribed days and do not alter the dose yourself. Tell the clinic if you may be pregnant, have liver disease, or use other medicines. Record tablets taken, bleeding, pelvic symptoms, and any appointment instructions.

Your team may give guidance about intercourse, insemination, or a later trigger injection. If you vomit after a dose or forget one, contact the clinic for specific advice instead of taking an extra tablet.

Contact the fertility team for severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, marked abdominal swelling, faintness, or breathing difficulty. Seek urgent assessment for sudden severe pain, especially with weakness or vomiting, because an ovarian or other pelvic problem may need prompt care.
