Is ovarian stimulation done with hCG trigger injection?

Stimulation medicines encourage one or more ovarian follicles to grow. Ultrasound scans, and sometimes hormone testing, help the fertility team assess follicle development. When a follicle is ready, hCG may be prescribed as a trigger. It acts similarly to the natural luteinising hormone signal that leads to ovulation.

The trigger is therefore a timing step within some stimulation plans. It does not replace the earlier medicines, and not every cycle uses hCG. The exact plan depends on the reason for treatment, scan findings, and whether intercourse, insemination, or egg collection is planned.

Use the injection only at the dose and time given by your fertility team. Timing can affect when ovulation or a procedure is expected, so do not move it without advice. Keep a written record of the injection time and attend the requested monitoring appointments.

Ask what symptoms are expected after stimulation and what medicines should be avoided. A pregnancy test taken soon after hCG may be misleading because the medication can remain detectable for a while; follow the testing date supplied by the clinic.

Contact your fertility clinic promptly for severe or worsening pelvic pain, marked abdominal swelling, repeated vomiting, trouble breathing, faintness, or much less urine than usual after stimulation. These symptoms can signal ovarian hyperstimulation or another problem that needs assessment.

Ask which medicine is stimulating the follicles, what the hCG trigger is intended to time, and what to do if you miss or delay the injection. Clarify the expected ovulation or procedure window and the clinic's after-hours contact route.
