Is operative hysteroscopy done with hysteroscope?

A hysteroscope is a slim instrument with a light and camera. It is guided through the vagina and cervix, so the surgeon can inspect the uterine cavity without an abdominal incision. Fluid may gently open the cavity and improve the view.

During operative hysteroscopy, instruments can pass through the hysteroscope to remove a polyp or fibroid projecting into the cavity, take a sample, divide scar tissue, or address another finding. The exact procedure depends on what is seen and planned.

Before the procedure, confirm its purpose, the expected anaesthetic, and whether a tissue sample will be sent for examination. Tell the team about pregnancy possibility, bleeding problems, allergies, and medicines that affect clotting. Arrange transport if sedation or anaesthesia is planned, and follow the clinic’s instructions about food and drink.

Mild cramping or light bleeding can occur afterwards. Contact your care team if pain is increasing, bleeding becomes heavy, you develop fever, or you notice an unpleasant-smelling discharge. Urgent assessment is needed for severe pain, fainting, breathing difficulty, or marked abdominal swelling.
