Is laser skin resurfacing done with thulium laser?

Thulium lasers commonly deliver energy at a wavelength absorbed by water in the skin. A clinician can use that energy to create controlled microscopic treatment zones, encouraging surface renewal and changes in the appearance of uneven tone or texture. The exact effect depends on the device and settings, so the word thulium alone does not describe the intensity of a session.

Compared with deeper resurfacing, a more superficial approach may involve less open skin but still cause warmth, redness, swelling, dryness or temporary darkening. Current irritation, tanning and a history of pigment change should be considered.

Show the clinician your main concern and disclose recent sun exposure, active skin conditions, medicines, cold sores and previous laser reactions. Ask what depth is proposed and whether a test area is useful. Stop only the products your clinician advises you to pause; do not self-prescribe an aggressive preparation routine.

Afterward, use gentle cleansing and the recommended moisturiser, avoid picking or scrubbing, and protect the treated skin from sunlight. Wait for the advised healing period before returning to exfoliating or retinoid products.

Contact the clinic if discomfort, swelling or redness is worsening, or if blisters, drainage, fever or spreading warmth develops. Ask for review if pigment changes remain prominent or if the skin becomes unusually thick, tender or slow to heal.
