Is laser skin resurfacing done with CO2 laser?

A CO2 laser uses infrared energy that is strongly absorbed by water in the skin. Depending on the device and settings, it can create a more ablative treatment that removes microscopic columns or a lighter treatment that heats tissue with less surface removal. The approach may be selected for texture, acne scars, lines or uneven surface changes.

Treatment depth affects redness, swelling, peeling and downtime. Skin tone, active acne, infection, a history of cold sores and a tendency to form raised scars can influence suitability and preparation.

Ask the clinician which CO2 mode and depth are intended, what improvement is realistic for your concern, and how long the treated skin may need gentle care. Disclose tanning, medicines, previous procedures, cold sores and any healing problems. Follow instructions about pausing irritating products and protecting the skin from sunlight.

After treatment, cleanse and moisturise as directed, avoid picking peeling skin and use the recommended sun protection. Do not restart strong active products until the clinician says the barrier has recovered.

Call the clinic if pain, swelling or redness is increasing instead of settling, or if blisters, pus, an unpleasant odour or fever appears. New clustered blisters may signal a cold sore flare and need prompt advice. Persistent darkening, lightening or thickened scars should be reviewed during follow-up.
