Is hysteroscopic polypectomy done with hysteroscope?

A hysteroscope is a slim camera instrument passed through the vagina and cervix into the uterus. It carries light and a viewing system, allowing the clinician to inspect the uterine cavity without an abdominal incision. Small instruments can pass through the hysteroscope to detach and remove the polyp.

The removed tissue may be sent for laboratory examination. The timing and type of anaesthesia depend on the size and position of the polyp, the planned technique, and your health needs. Hysteroscopic polypectomy is different from removing the uterus; it targets tissue within the uterine cavity.

Before the procedure, tell the clinic about medicines, allergies, bleeding problems, and possible pregnancy. Confirm whether you need to avoid food or drink and whether someone should accompany you home. Ask when to restart medicines and what level of activity is appropriate.

Cramping and light bleeding can occur afterward. Use only the pain relief and menstrual products recommended by your care team. Keep the follow-up appointment if one is arranged, especially if tissue analysis or further treatment is planned.

Contact your care team if bleeding becomes heavy, pain is severe or worsening, fever develops, or vaginal discharge has an unpleasant smell. Seek urgent help for fainting, severe weakness, breathing difficulty, or sudden intense abdominal pain.

Ask where the polyp is located, which anaesthesia is planned, whether the tissue will be examined, when results will be available, and which symptoms should prompt a same-day call.
