Is HIFU skin lifting done with a HIFU device?

HIFU means high-intensity focused ultrasound. The treatment is the planned skin-lifting procedure; the device is the equipment that produces and directs the ultrasound pulses. A trained provider places an applicator against the skin and chooses a cartridge, depth, and energy approach for the area being treated. The aim is to create controlled points of heating in deeper tissue while limiting treatment to the intended zones. HIFU is not the same as a surface facial or a surgical facelift, and the result and experience can vary with skin laxity, anatomy, device type, and technique.

Ask which device and applicator will be used, whether it is appropriate for your treatment area, and who will perform the procedure. Share details of pregnancy, implanted electronic devices, metal in the treatment area, active skin disease, recent procedures, medicines, and any history of unusual scarring. A consultation should cover expected sensation, possible temporary redness or tenderness, aftercare, and when changes may become noticeable. Do not choose a treatment solely because it uses the HIFU name; the assessment and treatment plan matter as much as the technology.

Mild tenderness, swelling, or redness can occur after energy-based treatment. Contact the provider if discomfort is severe, lasts longer than expected, or is accompanied by blistering, marked swelling, altered sensation, weakness, or skin color change. Seek urgent medical help for facial drooping, trouble speaking, breathing difficulty, or rapidly increasing swelling. These symptoms should be assessed rather than managed only with home care.
