Is FUE hair transplant done with an FUE punch?

FUE stands for follicular unit extraction. During the extraction stage, a small circular punch makes an opening around a follicular unit so it can be removed from the donor area. The grafts are then prepared and placed into recipient sites designed for the desired direction and density. Punch size, instrument design, and the balance between manual and assisted steps vary with the surgeon, hair characteristics, and plan.

Ask the clinic to explain the full sequence: donor-area preparation, extraction, graft handling, recipient-site creation, placement, and aftercare. Discuss donor density, hair calibre, existing medical conditions, medicines, smoking, and how future hair loss may affect the design. Confirm who performs each stage and what the small donor openings may look like while healing.

After surgery, contact the clinic for increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, heavy bleeding, or worsening swelling. Urgent review is needed for breathing difficulty or a severe allergic reaction. Protect the grafts exactly as instructed, and report concerns early rather than scratching or applying an unapproved product.

Ask which punch will be used, who controls its depth and direction, how grafts are protected, and how the donor area will be assessed. Ask what recovery changes are expected and how the plan accounts for ongoing hair loss.
