Is fracture fixation surgery done with C-arm fluoroscopy?

A C-arm is a mobile imaging device that can produce X-ray views while the operation is taking place. The surgeon may use these views to locate the fracture, assess the position of bone fragments, and confirm that plates, screws, or other fixation devices are placed as planned. It is brought into position around the injured body part and adjusted to obtain different angles. The exact use depends on the fracture location, its shape, the planned approach, and the equipment available in the operating room.

Ask whether live imaging is expected and how it will influence the surgical plan. Tell the team about pregnancy or possible pregnancy, previous reactions to contrast material if contrast is being considered, and any other medical concerns. After surgery, follow the instructions for weight-bearing, wound care, exercises, and follow-up imaging. These checks help the team assess healing as recovery progresses.

Contact the surgical team promptly for worsening pain that is not controlled, increasing swelling, drainage from the wound, fever, new numbness, pale or blue fingers or toes, or difficulty moving the limb. Seek urgent help for severe breathing trouble, chest pain, or a limb that suddenly becomes cold and very painful.
