Make a note of symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, jaundice, or persistent skin lesions, including when they began. Answer health questions honestly; withholding symptoms can delay suitable advice and may put colleagues or customers at risk. Ask whether you need to avoid food handling while unwell and when you may return. Follow hygiene instructions, including careful handwashing and keeping cuts covered with a suitable dressing.

Contact a clinician promptly if you have repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, blood in stool, yellowing of the skin or eyes, signs of dehydration, or a fever that is not settling. Do not handle food while experiencing symptoms that could contaminate food; notify your supervisor and obtain workplace guidance. Seek urgent care for confusion, fainting, severe abdominal pain, or difficulty keeping fluids down. A screening appointment should not replace assessment of a new or serious illness.
