Is flu vaccination safe in pregnancy?

Pregnancy can change how the body responds to respiratory infections, so influenza may cause more significant illness than it otherwise would. The seasonal flu vaccine trains the immune system to recognise influenza without causing influenza infection. Protection also matters after birth, when a newborn is still too young for some routine protections. Contact your maternity team promptly for persistent fever, reduced fetal movement, severe vomiting, or symptoms that are worsening rather than settling. If you develop influenza symptoms during pregnancy, ask for medical advice early because treatment decisions may depend on how long symptoms have been present and your pregnancy details.
