Is endometrial ablation done with hysteroscope?

A hysteroscope is a slim instrument with a camera and light. It passes through the vagina and cervix so the clinician can inspect the uterine cavity without an abdominal incision. During some ablation techniques, the view helps the clinician assess the cavity and position the treatment device. Other ablation systems use their own delivery equipment or a different approach, so the exact instruments depend on the method selected.

Ask which ablation method is planned, what anaesthesia or sedation will be used, and whether the uterine cavity needs imaging or sampling first. Endometrial ablation is generally considered for heavy menstrual bleeding after other causes have been assessed. It is not a fertility treatment, and pregnancy after ablation can be dangerous; discuss reliable contraception and future pregnancy plans before consenting.

Follow the discharge instructions and contact the surgical team for fever, worsening pelvic pain, foul-smelling discharge, heavy bleeding, difficulty passing urine, or persistent vomiting. Seek urgent help for severe pain, collapse, or breathing difficulty. Watery or blood-stained discharge can occur during recovery, but the team should assess symptoms that become heavier or more severe.
