Is diagnostic laparoscopy done with a laparoscopic surgery system?

A clinician inserts a thin laparoscope through a small abdominal opening, usually after the abdomen is gently inflated to create working space. The system includes the scope, light source, camera, and monitor. It allows inspection of structures such as the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and surrounding pelvic tissue. Additional small openings may be used for instruments if a sample or a limited procedure is planned. Diagnostic laparoscopy is performed in a theatre setting, commonly with anaesthesia.

Give the surgical team a complete list of medicines, allergies, previous operations, and health conditions. Tell them if pregnancy is possible or if you have symptoms of an infection. Follow instructions about fasting and medicines on the day. Plan transport home and help with early recovery, because anaesthesia and abdominal discomfort may affect alertness and movement. Ask when bathing, work, exercise, and sexual activity can resume.

Some shoulder-tip discomfort, bloating, tiredness, or soreness around the small cuts may occur after laparoscopy. Contact the surgical team for increasing pain, fever, repeated vomiting, redness or pus at a wound, heavy bleeding, or difficulty passing urine. Urgent assessment is needed for severe breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, or sudden severe abdominal pain.

Ask which organs will be examined, whether a biopsy or treatment may be possible during the operation, how the camera findings will be explained, and which warning signs require immediate contact. Clarify the expected recovery plan before you leave.
